My name is Safiya, and I made Art With Heart as a community service project aiming to provide accessible art and mental health resources for refugee children. Through activities addressing topics such as self esteem, confidence, emotional regulation, and more, this resource allows children to express their emotions through a creative outlet.
To accomplish the goal of accessibility, this activity book is translated in English, Spanish, and Arabic. Further, I collaborated with non-profit agencies that help refugee and immigrant families transition to life in the US and gave them digital/physical copies of the book.
Through this project I hope to inspire the creation of art, encourage the sharing of stories, and empower others to learn more about the refugee experience.
Go to the Activity Books page to find digital copies in all translations!
I partnered with refugee resettlement agency Radiant Hands to donate physical/digital copies of the activity book.
I packaged 75 copies of the activity book into backpacks with school supplies as part of a back to school drive for elementary kids.
I partnered with Global Refuge, a nonprofit that works with immigrant and refugee kids every summer.

Artistic expression can bring groups of people together! Collaboration in art strengthens community bonds and displays unity. People who may feel lonely or isolated can share in creative experiences with others allowing for emotions to be communicated visually instead of through words.
The activity shown in this picture requires each kid to think of the emotions they were feeling throughout the week and find colors that represent them. Then, design a flower cut-out based on those emotions to stick on the board with everyone else's flowers. Together, this board becomes a bouquet of every artist's emotions expressed in their own way.
